Camera is down ! But I shall update anyway.

Okay so I have been drawing for two days now and my camera is down (Bummer). The main character designs are drawn and are currently being colored. Once the character designs are scanned I will make sure to get them in. The current names for the characters are:

  1. (Main Character) Stanlee
  2. (Stanlee's Roomate) Matt
  3. (The girl across the hall) Sally
There will be more characters but the story line focuses on these three. There is no love drama, family sit down dinners, or any talking animals (SMH) also no cliff hangers, flashbacks (unless necessary), or +Conway Twitty  songs. You'll just have to check it out purely because you want too.

         Moving on.

Storyboards for the first full comic are half done right now. The entire comic will be 39 panels over 9 pages. Once the comic is scanned in it will be colored then a few copies will be printed. These copies will be sent to winners of an up coming contest I have planned. The comic will be turned into a PDF and will be available on your Kindle for $1.99.

If you would like to reserve a copy of the printed comic please email me with your information and I will contact you back within 24 hr.

Well I'm going to get back to the storyboards.

Cheers,

Joshua

Kindle Direct Publishing

Hello again,

Well thanks to a friend of mine I was directed to +Kindle  to figure out how I could publish my comic on my own and upload it via +Kindle . Now I have looked into this for a few hours just to make sure I have everything understood and I believe I do.

Once I have a comic finished (This means scanned in and colored via +Photoshop or +GIMP ) I will be uploading them to +Kindle so that you may purchase them for your viewing and reading pleasure.

More updates include +Pintrest, and comic title.

Firstly you can find my +Pintrest profile here Pintrest Account. I will be adding all of the pages as they are getting worked on to +Pintrest so you can keep an eye on the work. I will make sure to keep updating the blog and give you any new information as it comes up.

New Comic TITLE! = "I don't know yet"
(Have to at least get one page done before i know what it will be called)

P.S) The amount of pages for the comic as of right now is 10 pages at the least.

Cheers,

Joshua

New Comic Book ! " The Funny Pages™ "

This comic will be made up of multiple short stories. The story will be confined to these restraints, If the story can be told in one page then the following page must also be summed up in the one page. In order to use a two page story, the story must begin on the left page and end on the right. The reason I chose to plan out the book like this is because every page you look at is a story.

Here is the second addition to " The Funny Pages ™ "

I apologize for the picture quality, here is the dialog  in the order it would be read.
  1. HA  HA  HAHA HA
  2. O-Kaaaay What's so funny?
  3. HA HA  HA HAHA HA  HA HA  HAHA
  4. What! What the fuck is so funny!?!
  5. It's  It's It's  It's It's It's  It's It's  It's
  6. It's what?
  7. It's Ur Face!
I hope you enjoyed that, Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Joshua

Comic and Cartoon design process.

Here are a few of the visual steps I like to take when creating a new project.

I like to start with a shape for the head and draw it from each angle.

  • Looking to the left and up.
  • Looking to the left.
  • Looking left and down.
  • Facing front.
  • Rear facing.
  • Looking right and up.
  • Looking right.
  • Looking right and down.
This may seem like a lot right now but it will save you hours of time in the future if you take care of this now.

Here are many different eyes and noses to be used for characters faces.

Here are some hair styles.

Here is the characters body sheet.

Body sheets can include the full body from each angle that will be viewed in your comic. You can also cut the body up in to smaller pieces to give yourself a quick reference guide to use late.

Here is a full character design. (The Ghost)

I have found in my years of drawing that if you give yourself a base design sheet you can reefer back to it at anytime to make you drawing workflow much smoother.

I hope this has helped you and if so let me know. If you would like to know what the lines mean on the head angle sheet let me know and I will add an explanation.

Here is a link to my official cartoonist studio.

Till next time,

Cheers

New Comic Book Project.

Hey there guys and girls, after having a long day with the girlfriend we came up with a very cool concept for a new cartoon. The full concept is still being ironed out but in the mean time i thought I would take one of the characters and make a comic book of short bits with that character.

Here is the first page of this comic.

The comic follows a ghost from his perspective. The people in the bits are people visiting the haunted house is search of ghosts. In the first page the ghost is sleeping and the light is flipped on and he is woken up. He then finds a ghost investigator that turned on the light.

Page 2

Clearly upset the ghost decides to give the investigator what he is looking for. With the night now off the ghost is free to sleep A-GAIN! Muhahahaha No!! anyways. If the text is to hard for you to read pleas let me know and I will post the text .

Let us know what you think more comic bits coming soon.
If you would like to submit a story to be drawn out head to the contact page.

Update as of 3 am. Possible MIT suspects named over police chatter.

There was a mention on police scanners recently that the suspects in custody are  +Mike Mulugeta  and Sunil Tripathi. The latter is a missing Brown student who was identified on Reddit as a possible suspect earlier this week. However, the chatter is not confirmed.

MIT shooting update!! Massive police operation in Boston.

One of the suspects wanted in Monday's +Boston Marathon  bombing was shot and killed by police while a second suspect was at large and being pursued, the head of the Massachusetts State Police said early Friday.
Colonel Timothy P. Alben, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police said the first suspect from Monday's bombing was shot and killed by police following a pursuit that began Thursday night in Cambridge and ended a short time later in nearby Watertown.
Alben said the second suspect, seen in photographs distributed by the FBI as wearing a white cap, is still at large. He said people should be on the lookout and that officials consider him a suspect.
He did not identify them by name.
Police exchanged gunfire with suspects in a nearby suburb early Friday after a college police officer was shot and killed, authorities said. Police said one of the suspects was shot dead and another was at large.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis said in a Twitter statement that one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing on Monday, seen pictured wearing a white hat, was at large and that another suspect was dead.
Davis told reporters the man they are seeking is armed and dangerous. He urged people to stay in their homes and drew the first official link between the overnight police pursuit and the search for suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.
"We believe this to be a terrorist. We believe this is a man who came here to kill people. We need to get him in custody,' Davis said.
There was a massive police response, first in Cambridge, where a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was fatally shot in his squad car, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. A second police officer was wounded a short time later, officials said.
The Boston Globe reported they had captured one of the men wanted in connection with the marathon bombing Monday.
The district attorney's statement said police responded to reports of an armed carjacking by two males who held a victim at gunpoint for half an hour before being released uninjured.
The statement said one suspect was critically injured during the pursuit and later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
A massive police response, including FBI agents and the National Guard, was seen in the post-midnight hours in the city of Watertown, with gunshots and explosions heard, following the shooting death of a campus police officer at MIT in nearby Cambridge.
Police could be seen with guns drawn one one man face down on a paved street. But there was widespread confusion about the events, and police agencies provided little official information.
The confrontation came after a Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus police officer was shot and killed around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night at the school's campus, authorities said.
The Globe cited an official with knowledge of the investigation as saying one suspect in the marathon bombing had been captured and another remained on the loose after the Watertown firefight.
The Massachusetts State Police issued a Tweet at 3:45 a.m. saying police "will be going door by door, street by street, in and around Watertown. Police will be clearly identified. It is a fluid situation.''
The state police also advised residents in and around Watertown to stay inside. "Do NOT answer door unless it is an identified police officer,'' the department said.
FBI spokesman Jason Pack said the FBI was aware of the developments but shed no light on who was in custody or any connection between the bombings on Monday and the developments overnight. "The situation is ongoing. We are working with local authorities to determine what happened,'' he said.
CNN showed video of one man, stripped of his clothes, presumably as a safety precaution, being placed in the back of a police squad car. The Globe reported seeing one man being questioned by FBI agents in an ambulance.
The rapidly moving events unfolded overnight as the entire Boston metro area was on high alert following Monday's fatal bomb explosions during the Boston Marathon and as the FBI was leading a massive manhunt for suspects. The developments came on a day when the FBI issued photographs of two men that it said it is seeking and were seen in surveillance video carrying backpacks in the marathon race crowd on Monday before the twin explosions.
It was not known if the Watertown events were related to the MIT shooting or the fatal explosions earlier in the week. But police response was massive with armored SWAT-type vehicle present as well as FBI and National Guard personnel.
Video from WCVB-TV showed police officers with guns drawn and apparently giving orders to a man face down on the street in Watertown.
An explosion could be heard, and police ordered journalists and spectators to move far back. Multiple police agencies were represented at the scene. Officers said they were looking for another suspect.
"I heard sirens, then a ton of gunshots.,'' said Adam Healy, 31, a behavioral specialist for autism who lives less than a mile from the scene. "And then I heard an explosion amid the gunshots. After the explosion, the sky lit up. "
Dan MacDonald, 40, sitting in a second story Watertown apartment, said he first heard sirens, then gunshots.
"It was about 10 to 15 shots. then there was an onslaught," he said. "There were 25 to 60 shots within 45 seconds. Then the shots stopped and boom. It was like dynamite."
After a loud boom, police pushed spectators and media back more than 200 yards from the scene. More Boston Police in armored vests arrived, along with a special operations truck, SWAT vehicle and police dogs.
Police told residents to stay in their homes.
Stephanie Guyotte, spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney's office, said the situation in Watertown was still unfolding and she had no information on the suspects.
Police in Cambridge, where the school is located, issued a pair of Tweets saying that a campus officer reported shot around 10:30 p.m. had died.
"Police, DA Investigating Fatal Shooting of Campus Police Officer In Cambridge,'' the department Tweeted.
Massachusetts State Police said it was assisting Cambridge and campus police in their investigation.
State police said no one had been arrested.
MIT campus police referred a caller to the campus news bureau, where no one answered calls. MIT posted on its website shortly before 2 a.m. that police advised that the suspect in the officer's death was no longer on campus.
State police spokesman Dave Procopio said the shooting took place about 10:30 p.m. local time outside an MIT building. The injured officer was described as a male but no further information about him was released.
Procopio says authorities are searching for a suspect or suspects.
About 11,000 people attend the school. The MIT campus is in Cambridge, just across the Charles River from Boston and less than two miles from Copley Square, where two bombs exploded Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, triggering a massive manhunt for what the FBI said were two suspects.

MIT officer killed in late night shooting

An MIT police officer was shot multiple times and died from his injuries late Thursday evening, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office confirmed. The shooting happened around 10:45 pm near Building 32 (Stata), which is currently surrounded by responding agencies.

The area is cordoned off. According to the District Attorney's office, the MIT campus police officer was responding to a report of a disturbance in the area of Vassar and Main streets was reportedly shot. According to authorities, the officer was found evidencing multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased. State Police said they were assisting in the search for a suspect or suspects, processing the crime scene, and providing investigative support.

According to the University's website, "12:28am Update on shooter situation. Responding agencies are actively investigating the situation, which remains very fluid at this time. Police continue to sweep the campus. Stay indoors and remain inside until further notice." Boston University issued a campus alert to students on its website. "The unknown suspect is currently at large.

Please stay away from the [MIT] area and remain indoors. Boston University Police are on patrol within the BU campus." Harvard had an alert posted on its website, but only cautioned students to avoid the area around the MIT campus.

3D Transparent crystal ball tutorial.

Drawing a transparent crystal ball.
Tools Needed
  • Pencil
  • Clean eraser (For highlights)
  • Smooth nylon brush (For blending)
  • Digital camera with view finder
  • Tripod/Mount
  • Light Source
Steps
  1. Focus a camera on the 3D shape you desire to draw. (Make sure the shapes complete view is within the surface you will be drawing it on.
  2. Once you are happy with the angle at which the shape is placed while looking through the view finder, start to trace the outline of the image while looking through the view finder.
[In this video I decided to make my outline of the shape slightly bigger because the closer my pencil tip got to the object the tougher it was for me to see the line on the paper through the view finder.]

     3. Work on the darkest areas first because they will be small and will not take up most of the
         object.
     4. Next fill in your mid grays and heavy grays. The gray should become darker as it gets to the
object. (Keep it gray don't turn it black.)
     5. Before you begin to blend the mid tones in the sphere blending the dark tones into the
mid tones.(This will leave pencil residue on the brush to make lighter tones easier to bring in
         later.)
     6. Start to blend the outer ring of the sphere, also rub your brush in curing motions in the
sphere to show some depth to the 3D object.
     7. Once you have blended all of your shadowed areas so that they fade from darkest to white,
flip your pencil over and with the clean eraser and a firm grip draw in some solid white lines
following the curve of your shape.

Make some minor touch ups and you should be able to look through the view finder again and see a 3D image. I hope this tutorial helped you if it did let me know. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them.

3D Apple drawing.

So after watching some video's of +Tracy Lee Stum  which can be viewed on +YouTube  of her 3D side walk chalk drawings, I decided i could give it a try. Due to the fact that I do not have a contract to do this on a city street i choose to go with something i had in house.

Here is a couple shots of an apple I had around the house that was drawn with pencil while looking through a camera view finder. The task was not simple at all due to the fact that you have to re-learn how to draw the objects shape.

I spent a lot of the time focusing on where the light would hit the object. I have to say that I' am quite happy with the finale result. Although I do not have the current ability to do the city sidewalk chalk drawings like +Tracy Lee Stum I' am confident that if I was given the chance to do one of these great pieces of art I could accomplish it.

Below is the +YouTube video I watched of +Tracy Lee Stum  preforming her +SIdewalk Art  so check it out and see if it inspires you to try this fun style of art for yourself. If you have any questions on how to apply and preform this method feel free to ask and I will be sure to add it to the Tuts section of the blog.

Cheers,

Joshua

Applying for a patent. "Patent Pending" The Screen Genie

Now i want to say that this is not  a work of art. This is a 3D model that I made in +Blender, this is the base model and design for an invention I have been working on. I' am currently submitting a patent application for this invention so i guess I should say "Patent Pending". The name of the invention is called the "Screen Genie".

I think I will be posting the idea in some forums that are relevant to the market that the +Invention will be sold in. The invention could be viewed as controversial by some but I ' am confident that a lot of other people will find it useful and something they would want and use daily.

I applied to a company today here in +Rochester Newyork  for web design and graphic design, so I have that to look forward to. As for now I have done as much as I can for the day, so I' m off to play some +Battlefield 3.

    *Tuts* Update real quick.

I figured I would do some basic shapes and items (Apples, Boxes, Roses, Skulls, etc) each one o these will be a video tut. I should actually be able to get a few done in a day as they are all pretty simple things to draw. That is for me I mean. So if you have anything you would like to learn how to draw, paint, etc then comment with your request and I will be sure to make a video for you.

Cheers,

Joshua

How to Pitch an Idea - More Specifically, to Applits.com

A few months back I used to submit ideas for application development to an online company named +Applits. I found I really enjoyed +Applits business model and how easy the entire process was. All you needed to do was, submit your brilliant app ideas during the submission phase of each month's competition (that's now!).

During Voting Week, app enthusiasts everywhere come together to vote on what app they will develop next. If your app idea receives the most votes, They develop the app! You win cash and a percent of profits after release.

So now that you know what +Applits  is head over and submit next great app idea, who knows you might actually win and get paid just for having the idea.

The reason I bring this all up is because this month I have submitted an idea for application that i feel many artist would enjoy and many other people alike. The voting week will begin in 18 day 17 hours and 28 minutes from the time the post is added.

My application idea is currently pending confirmation and I cannot give any information on it until voting week. But if you would like to submit an app idea of your own then read this full blog post by Joshua that explains " How to Pitch an Idea - More Specifically, to Applits.com Visit +Applits  Blog  Post Here.

New commissioned work thanks to the blog readers.

I' am very happy to say that thanks to some viewers I have 6 new commissioned projects. Three of these are photo realism dry brush portraits. The other three are abstract bio-morphic paintings in oil. The good news aside from all of the obvious reasons is I now have a price range.

For a 24x18 canvas oil painting the starting price is $100.00 the price value may increase on the amount of fine detail needed to complete the painting.

For a 18x12 canvas oil painting the starting price will start at $20.00 the price value may increase on the amount of colors and fine details needed to complete the painting.

These prices are based on what other readers commissioned their paints for. There is a price break if you commission multiple paintings at once. The price break starts at a 15% for three.

If you would like commission your own head to the contact me page for details.
